In this study, we propose a novel version of VPM formulation based on constrained least-square method to construct higher order polynomials beyond 3rd-order accuracy. The so-called VPM-CLS scheme realizes at least theoretically, arbitrary high order of accuracy on hybrid unstructured grids. We have also proposed adaptive order detection (AOD) scheme for limiting projection to improve the solution quality for discontinuous solutions. The resulting method that combines VPM-CLS scheme and AOD limiting approach is embedded into numerical models for compressible flows which are verified and validated by various numerical examples. Numerical results demonstrate the high solution accuracy and excellent capabilities of proposed schemes to handle both complex physics and geometries.
