The 16th International Symposium on Modeling and Optimization in Mobile, Ad Hoc and Wireless Networks (WiOpt 2018) will take place from May 7 to 11, 2018 in Shanghai, China. 

The symposium aims at addressing advances in research on Ad Hoc and wireless networks. The objective of this conference is to provide a forum for researchers in the relative field to share the latest results and explore the opportunity of research collaboration. It welcomes different perspectives, including performance analysis, protocol design, wireless communication, and optimization theory. Contributions to this symposium should improve the state-of-the-art in design, analysis, dimensioning and operations of wireless network by providing insights into theoretical aspects as well as providing practical methods and tools. All forms of wireless networks are of interest: from cellular wide-area and local-area networks to dense and sparse Ad Hoc networks; domain specific vehicular, public-transport and personal-area networks as well as application-specific sensor networks. WiOpt 2018 will host a tutorial track for the first time. We seek half-day tutorial proposals on new and emerging topics within the scope of wireless networks. Proposals addressing the modeling, performance evaluation, optimization, and economic mechanism designs of wireless networks are particularly encouraged. WiOpt 2018 will be technically co-sponsored by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP). The copyright of published papers belongs to IFIP. The published papers will appear in both IEEE Xplore, the Digital Library of IFIP. 

The conference site, Shanghai is the largest city in China. Shanghai sits at the mouth of the Yangtze River, the longest river in China. With a history of more than 700 years, Shanghai was once the financial center of the Far East. Today, Shanghai is the largest economic and transportation center in China. WiOpt 2018 promises to be a great event for all participants, with excellent technical and social programs.

The 16th International Symposium on Modeling and Optimization in Mobile, Ad Hoc, and Wireless Networks solicits high-quality contributions.

WiOpt 2018 welcomes original papers related to modeling, performance evaluation, and optimization of wireless networks. The scope covers all types of wireless networks: cellular, ad hoc, content-driven, delay-tolerant, mesh, metropolitan, sensor, cognitive, vehicular, robotic, Internet of Things, virtualized, etc. The focus is on issues at and above the MAC layer, although cross-layer techniques encompassing the physical layer are equally welcome. We encourage both theoretical contributions and submissions relating to real world empirical measurements, experimental studies. The areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Modeling, model validation, and performance analysis
  • Scaling laws and fundamental limits
  • Network architectures
  • Protocol design
  • Resource allocation and management
  • Packet scheduling
  • Access control
  • Network economics
  • Quality of service
  • Energy efficiency, harvesting, power control and management
  • Security, trust and privacy
  • Network resilience, anomaly detection, and reliability analysis
  • Cross-layer design and optimization / control
  • Measurements and experimental studies
  • Data collection and storage
  • Data analytics for wireless networks
  • Machine learning for wireless networks
  • Game-theoretic for wireless networks

WiOpt’18 will give one Best Paper Award and one Best Student Paper Award. For the Best Student Paper Award, the first author of the paper needs to be a full-time student at the time of paper submission. Papers receiving the awards will be recommended for fast-track reviews in IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking.

To guarantee publication of a WiOpt paper, at least one author should be registered at full rate and present the work at the conference.

A completed copyright form is required to guarantee publication. Please download the IFIP-copyright form here .

Instructions for submission

  • The pdf files must be at most 8 pages long and have version 1.4 or higher. All fonts must be embedded, and the pdf should not contain bookmarks or links.
  • The following page sizes are allowed: letter, A4. Only fonts 10 pt and larger may be used. The paper must have 2 columns. The minimum line spacing is 11 pt. For letter-sized paper, the left and right margins must be at least 0.625 in. The top margin must be at least 0.7 in. The bottom margin must be at least 0.9 in. For A4 paper, the left and right margins must be at least 1.2 cm. The top margin must be at least 1.8 cm. The bottom margin must be at least 2.5 cm.
  • Please use the IEEE Templates for Conference Proceedings.

Help with embedded fonts

Sometimes the embedding of fonts can be an issue. Here are some points to overcome this problem.

Times, Helvetica etc are used by \usepackage{}: if you do not really need this, disable and run pdflatex. Otherwise, use the command 'pdffonts yourfilename.pdf' to identify if all the fonts are embedded. Ensure that the columns for 'emb' and 'sub' have only 'yes' in it. If not, either use adobe utilities, or try

  1. pdftops filename.pdf
  2. ps2pdf14 -dPDFSETTINGS=/prepress -dEmbedAllFonts=true filename.ps newfilename.pdf

Now you can upload the file newfilename.pdf (please also check pdffonts to see 'yes').

 

In maths, the bbm package usually is problematic. In such cases, a brute force replacement by some other compatible package or changing the notation will do the trick of eliminating type3 fonts. Use pdffonts to see any Type 3 fonts, such fonts will not pass the pdfeXpress check during the final submission.

External images by \includegraphics{} can create problems. A quick way to check is by using \documentclass[draft,letter,conference,10pt] as preamble and run pdflatex. If the resulting PDF file gets through EDAS, the problem is indeed with the images. You can then perform the step below. One way is embed the fonts in each image, by the following command

  1. gs -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -dEmbedAllFonts=true
  2. -sOutputFile=OUTPUT_FILE_NAME.pdf -f INPUT_FILE_NAME.pdf

and then run pdflatex yourfilename.tex.
