活动简介

The IGL-1 2018 workshop aims to provide a forum for the leading experts and young researchers working on the science, engineering, technology of GNSS RO, GNSS-R, and LEO-LEO occultation and reflections and their use in weather, climate and space weather research and applications. It invites the related international communities to come together and share their recent results and plans for the future as well as to start building new collaborations and projects in the fruitful atmosphere of this highly topical workshop.

The scientific discussions among the diverse members of the GNSS RO, GNSS-R, and LEO-LEO communities and the weather, climate, and space weather communities are crucial for maximizing the scientific opportunities provided by past, present, and future GNSS RO, GNSS-R and LEO-LEO missions. The discussions between the GNSS RO, GNSS-R and LEO-LEO communities are important to promote science and technology innovations for most innovative future missions. A dialogue between the data providers and the data users in the weather, climate and space weather fields is equally important, to ensureoptimal provision and use of these data for both research and operational applications.

At the Chinese side, particularly the GNOS instrument is relevant, a GNSS RO receiver using GPS and BDS signals. Two GNOS instruments have been designed and developed by National Space Science Center, CAS, and been launched onboard the FY-3C satellite in September 2013 and the FY-3D satellite in November 2017. A new instrument named GNOS II designed for the FY-3E satellite will provide a revolutionary innovation by combining the GNSS RO and GNSS-R techniques in one payload and by tracking GPS, BDS and Galileo signals. The following FY-3 series of operational meteorological satellites will continue to carry GNOS II as one major payload, to monitor the atmosphere, ionosphere, sea wave and wind field by using GNSS signals. In addition, a pre-study of LEO-LEO occultation is going on in China, a technique which can uniquely complement andadvance GNSS RO to monitor the state, variability, and transient changes of the global atmosphere and climate.

The NSSC, CAS and CMA are therefore pleased and honored to invite members of the international community to this workshop on the one hand to learn more about the status of the Chinese activities such as the FY-3 GNOS missions, including the data processing, data products, and scientific opportunities provided by GNOS, and on the other hand to bring in and internationally highlight their own innovative developments, findings and plans. Truly innovating GNSS and LEO occultations & reflections for the best benefit of weather, climate and space weather communities will be possible only by mutual exchange and learning. IGL-1 2018 aims to serve as a great forum just for this purpose.
