Multimedia big data and deep learning have been currently considered as two major trends in data science. With the proliferation of social media, sharing websites, and mobile technologies, we are stepping a new era of multimedia big data. Moreover, tremendous advances in deep learning in recent years have led machine learning to its golden stage. Deep learning has been growing exponentially in different applications such as Natural Language Processing, speech processing, and computer vision. However, its applications to multi-modality data using big data solutions are still in the initial stage. Handling large, heterogeneous, high-dimensional, unbalanced, and unstructured multimedia data with limited labels is a great potential direction for the future of multimedia research. To take advantage of the inimitable capability of big data and deep learning in multimedia research, it is important to bring forward the recent techniques and research in this area. We invite active multimedia researchers to submit their latest, original, and high-quality research work addressing the challenges and providing novel solutions in multimedia big data and deep learning.
