The objectives of the workshop are manifold:
Identify the new frontiers and new opportunities to advance the state-of-the-art in Software Engineering research and practices for robotic systems;Develop a community-based plan for advances in software engineering technologies and methodologies for robotic systems, and review needs prompted by the newest trends in software engineering such as software patterns, real-time systems, big data, cloud computing, social network, natural language, machine vision, intelligent systems, and other innovative trends for robotic systems.Additional objectives that support the above include:
Collaborations between industry and academia;Advance and evolve software engineering state-of-the-art and build on existing resources and methods for robotic systems in an evolutionary manner;Through a community process there will be a focus on promoting research in these areas and engaging top minds on the improvements that are needed to compile recommendations for directed research for the new frontiers in software engineering for robotic systems.The workshop will target core knowledge that will be used to fundamentally evolve software engineering practice and to support the development of flexible and reusable software modules that are not necessarily tied to a single domain and are easily adapted when functional or non-functional requirements change. The Workshop will promote a way of building software such that the software is not by definition tied to a specific application context. The workshop participants will be urged to share techniques that have demonstrated progress towards the above-stated vision and goal and to grapple with the motivations listed above.
