Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), as one of the higher education institutions which enjoy a long history and a world-renowned reputation in China, is a key university directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education (MOE) of the People's Republic of China and co-constructed by MOE and Shanghai Municipal Government. Through 121 years' unremitting efforts, SJTU has become a comprehensive, research-oriented, and internationalized top university in China. 

By December 2016, SJTU has had 28 schools/departments, 21 research institutions, 13 affiliated hospitals, 2 affiliated medical research institute, 12 directly affiliated units and 6 directly affiliated enterprises, with 16,195 undergraduates and 30,270 postgraduates (14,374 master degree candidates and 6,719 doctorate degree candidates)，2,401 overseas students. Today SJTU has 64 undergraduate programs covering 9 major disciplines: economics, law, literature, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management and arts. Since 2000, there are 47 national higher education teaching achievement prizes （31 completed independently）. With 6 National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Centers, 3 national demonstration centers of virtual simulation experiment teaching and 10 Shanghai Municipal Experiment Teaching Demonstration Centers, SJTU has 8 national-level teaching groups, 15 Shanghai Municipal teaching groups, 8 nationally renowned teachers and 36 Shanghai locally renowned teachers and owns 46 national-level quality courses, 13 national-level video-recorded open courses, 23 national-level quality resource-sharing courses, 162 Shanghai Municipal quality courses, 7 bilingual-teaching demonstration courses and14 Shanghai higher education all-English demonstration courses. SJTU won the 1^st national “double demonstration base” and established student innovative center.

SJTU enjoys an increasingly high scientific research level and technology innovation level. Up to 2016, SJTU led the country for the 7th consecutive year in terms of both the project number and the amount of money issued by National Natural Science Foundation of China. The number of SCI included papers in terms of the Article, and Review hit a historical high with the total number of 6,027. Among them, international outstanding paper reaches 2,497. The total number of domestic SCI-cited papers reaches 26,749, ranking the first in China. 2,414 papers were regarded as "doing-a-good-job" papers, ranking the third in China. In 10 years, SCI-cited papers have reached 39,913 and 366,612 times, continue to maintain the second in China. 705 International Conference Papers, ranking second in China. 1 was elected as “2015 Chinese most influential 100 international academic papers”.

With profound cultural background, an age-old tradition on education, strenuous development history, and great achievements made since the reform and opening up, SJTU has attracted wide attention both inside and outside China. Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press

Founded in 1979 by Beijing Foreign Studies University, Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press (FLTRP) has grown into the largest foreign languages publisher and university press in China, ranking the third in sales turnover among all the publishing houses in China. With 37 years’ dedication to foreign languages publishing, a backlist of 10,000-plus titles and 1,000-plus new titles annually published in 47 languages, FLTRP has enjoyed the leading position in China’s foreign languages book market for more than two decades.

Keeping in pace with the changing times, FLTRP has been actively expanding its business scope and exploring innovative transformation. In addition to its long devotion to educational and academic publishing, new lines of publications in Chinese as a foreign language, humanities and social sciences, natural science and children’s books, and new endeavors in educational training, online courses and digital publishing, and cultural undertakings have enabled FLTRP to transit from a traditional publisher to a provider of comprehensive educational products and services.

To encourage teaching innovation and student development, FLTRP has organized educational training for both teachers and students at different levels, with the annual teacher training enrolment of about 100,000 and the K-12 English training enrolment of about 15,000. FLTRP has also initiatedthe national English speaking, debating, writing and reading contests, engaging students with challenging tasks and inspiring them to learn reflectively, think critically and communicate effectively. Moreover, FLTRP has worked closely with the China Language Assessment Centre of BFSU to develop the English Test for International Communication, which aims at improving students’ ability of using English effectively and appropriately in real communicative situations and preparing them for their future career development.

To support foreign language research, FLTRP has published academic books for professionals, language teachers and graduate students, including monographs, reference books, journals, and textbooks in different fields. Through the years, FLTRP has sponsored nationwide research projects and organized local and international conferences and symposiums to support young researchers, inspire new research, and promote the connection between theory and practice. Realizing that the Internet is a key tool for conducting academic research, FLTRP has created iResearch, a free online portal to help researchers and teachers exchange ideas and share the latest findings.

To meet the digital challenges in education, FLTRP has also developed Unipus and Unischool respectively to provide online services for college English and school English markets. The language teaching, learning and assessment products on these digital platforms have empowered universities and schools to innovate their teaching and assessment with state-of-the-art technology, integral services and shared resources.
