The Central Texas Section will host the 2018 IEEE Region 5 (R5) Annual Conference. It will take place April 6th – 8th, 2018 at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center in Austin, TX. Region 5 has more than 23,000 higher grade members, over 3,600 student members and represents 7% of the world-wide IEEE population. Region 5 is comprised of 26 local sections and over 90 student branches.
The Region 5 Annual Conference is structured as a weekend event that includes Regional Student Competitions, Regional Student Professional Activities Conference (SPAx), Regional Professionals Meeting, and the Regional Annual Business and Leadership Development Meeting. All sections are encouraged to send a voting delegate to the Region 5 Annual Conference.
The Region 5 Annual Business Meeting, held mainly on Saturday April 7th, will cover a wide range of topics. Topics to be discussed include, but are not limited to, Leader Development, Officer Reports, Finances, Educational Activities, Membership Development, Affiliate Group Reports, Development support, and updates on overall IEEE leadership direction.
The Region 5 Student Competitions, held on Saturday April 7th, includes Circuit Design, Ethics, Robotics, and Technical Papers. All competitions are open to undergraduate students. We expect over 30 Student Robotics teams competing! Students may start assembling at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center Friday evening.
This annual event is to be capped by a Saturday evening awards banquet that will feature a guest speaker.  At the banquet, we will recognize the winners of student competitions, and recognize outstanding IEEE individuals and programs across the 26 Region 5 Sections.
