The 19th and 20th century was the era of the professional and amateur poets, who demanded a place alongside men in the world of letters to contribute to cultural discourse, to make their opinions heard, and to tell their own stories. Women poets from India are the one to add a new dimension to the English literature of India. Poets like Sarojini Naidu, Amrita Pritam and Toru Dutt a are few examples.
Women chiselled a new world of their own through their poems. The increased metropolitan activities, sophisticated lifestyles, Anglo-Americanisation and the public and convent education of the present generation of women poets have made their poetic language, chiselled, sharp, pithy and effortless.
This conference aims at highlighting the varied themes of modern poems written by the budding poets. This theme converges feminism, second wave and post feminism of various countries.
