The quality of the solution of XFEM/GFEM as well as SDA and meshfree simulations in solid and fluid mechanics and the robustness and computational cost of such simulations is strongly influenced by the applied algorithmic methodologies. This minisymposium is dedicated to discuss recent advances in the algorithmic treatment of XFEM/GFEM, SDA and meshfree simulations leading to improvements in accuracy, robustness and speed.
The minisymposium welcomes contributions to algorithmic improvements both based on background analytical theories and on numerical/experimental observations. The authors are encouraged, for stimulating the discussion during the minisymposium, to point out advantages as well as shortcomings of the proposed methodologies.
Topics of interest are e.g.
quadrature techniques
preconditioning and stabilization techniques
crack representation and propagation methods
solving coupled and multi-physics problems
FSI algorithms for hydraulic fracturing
multi-scale algorithms for fracture problems
enhanced variational formulations for enriched discretization spaces
