The ‘International Conference on Transforming Engineering Education’ (ICTEE) will be held from 14th to 16th December 2017 in Pune. The Conference hosted by MIT Academy of Engineering, in association with the Pune Chapter of IEEE , and will be held at the Kothrud campus.
The challenges in education in the current era are involving the learners in the learning process, helping them relate their understandings to the real- world problems and seeking solutions for those. Thus, teaching pedagogy needs to evolve continuously, ensuring that latest practices are introduced, making engineering education lucrative and at par with the global standards.
ICTEE 2017 will be immensely valuable for scholars and researchers associated with engineering education. It shall serve as a platform for them to get in touch with and associate
with international researchers, for sharing their opinions and work, thus transforming engineering education. This conference will focus mainly on the innovative / best practices for engaging the 21st century learners.
All the accepted papers will be published in the proceedings of the conference, indexed by Elsevier bibliographic databases (Scopus).
The millennial learners have very shorter attention spans and prefer interactive, experiential and collaborative learning. They are very comfortable with technology and seek to continuously evolve and grow.Millennials have grown up in a dynamic and technology-driven environment and accordingly the educational system and teaching pedagogy needs to adapt to the learners’ needs.
As a community, researchers, academicians and educators need to come together to address thesematters, and develop and effectively implement innovative practices for enriched and deeper learning.
ICTEE seeks to provide an International forum for individuals from academia and industry to share and discuss their views on this burning topic and collaboratively transform Engineering education.
1.Design Thinking
Design thinking is a process, applicable to all walks of life, of creating new and innovative ideas and solving problems; it is not limited to a specific industry or area of expertise. It can be as effective in technology or education as it may be in services or manufacturing.
2.Outcomes Based Education
Outcomes based education (OBE) is a process that involves the restructuring of curriculum, assessment and reporting practices in education to reflect the achievement of high order learning and mastery rather than the accumulation of course credits.
3.Innovations in Teaching Learning
This approach focuses on the development of innovation competences, defining how knowledge is assimilated, produced and used in a manner that can generate great outcome. Innovation competences are learning outcomes that refer to knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for the novel activities to be successful.
4.Industry Institute Collaborations
The constantly changing engineering paradigms, in response to growing complexity of the industry environment today have necessitated Industry and Institutes to come closer. The intersecting needs and mutually interdependent relationship requires identifying means of further strengthening Industry–Institute Collaboration. The research on Industry Institute Collaborations is still in its initial stage and it is an unexplored area where research should be carried out.
5.Engaging 21st Century Learners
The creative application of technology can help engage millennial learners in content, reinforce skills essential to life in today's world, and, most importantly, require them to actively create rather than passively consume.
6.ICT Based Education
Information and Communication Technologies can lead to improved student learning and better teaching methods. It is a diverse set of technological tools and resources used to communicate, and to create, disseminate, store, and manage information.
7.Assessment and Evaluation
Assessment and evaluation utilizes data generated by applying various methods to understand and improve pedagogical innovations and academic programs. The Assessment and evaluation process in an educational activity or program helps in achieving its intended goal or outcome; the factors contributing to the outcome of the activity and the necessary improvement.
8.Best Practices in Engineering Education
Engineering is vital to successful, sustainable civilization. Engineering graduates can apply theoretical knowledge to industrial problems as well as exhibit theoretical understanding, creativity and innovation, team-working, technical breadth and business skills by keeping pace with the changing requirements of industry.
9.Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurship is an important engine of growth in the economy. Entrepreneurial spirit is characterized by innovation and risk-taking, and is an essential part of a nation's ability to succeed in an ever changing and increasingly competitive global marketplace.
