The Saxi Emerald deposit which located in Malipo country in the Province of Yunnan, southern China is the first important and economic emerald discovery in China. The deposit shows significant ore-controlling characteristic of fault structure and belongs to the northern part of Song-Chay Metamorphic Dome where Indochina, Yangtze and Cathaysia Blocks meets. Tectonic ore-controlling regularity and crucial ore-forming elements of the emerald were studied in Saxi Emerald deposit in order to provide scientific guidance for further ore-prospecting. The combination of detailed geologic observation in field and lab analysis shows that the main ore-controlling structures in Saxi area are NE- and NW-trending fault structures and shear zone which is parallel to the stratum. Geochemical analysis indicated that the Cr and V in host rock Pt1s and Be in the Late Cretaceous intrusions are extremely high. According to the results above we concluded that where tenso-shear fissure, the Cretaceous granite-porphyry and Saxi unit appeared simultaneously are good target for further exploration and there are still a good emerald prospecting potential in this region.
