Biomass combustion for power is one of the major routings of biomass energy utilization in China. It not only provided plenty of clean and green power but also played a very important role in disposal of agricultural and forestry wastes, which is crucial for the success of China's environmental protection campaign. The combustion technology available for biomass power was addressed here and the unique fluidized combustion technology developed specially for high variety,poor pretreated and normally alkali-contained biomass fuel in China was described also. After more than 10 years progress in this area, the efficiency, availability and NOx emission level of biomass combustion were considered the main challenges for further developing. Some technical issues concerned for those challenges were discussed, including fuel preparing, selection of combustion mode, deposition and high temperature due to alkali, NOx emission controlling. The trend of the biomass to power in China in further, which is governed by technical factor, as well as policy, is proposed. It was believed the biomass to power will definitely play a more important role in China’s new energy market in next decades.
