Surface modification on metallic implants is of great importance to improve the properties of osteoconduction and osteoinduction via structural or compositional variations.Extracellular matrix (ECM) are composed of various proteins and proteoglycans, surface coating of one or a few ECMs components is a simple and convenient method to regulate cellular responses . As we know, the main component of bone is calcium phosphate. During bone formation, extracellular calcium ions activate intracellular activities by affecting calcium-related receptors in osteoblasts. Meanwhile, the micro/nano structure on the surface of TiO2 nanorods strengthens the interaction between cells and materials, providing a more suitable microcircle for cell growth.
In our study,we prepare a series of composite coatings, which combined with different amount of Ca2+. Preliminary results show that calcium ions can bind to the extracellular matrix and distribute evenly in the composite coating. The composite coating not only promotes the adhesion and proliferation of cells, but also promotes the differentiation of cells into osteogenic direction and the mineralization of extracellular matrix.
