Cognitive Radio Networks Security Impact on 5G Communication

Abstract— In current wireless network, cognitive radio (CR) is
considered as one of the promising technology to increase the
efficiency of channel utilization. However, security issues have
introduced as one of the crucial challenges of cognitive radio
network due to its characteristics which is expected to impose new
types of security threats and challenges in the future 5G
communication. Our goals in this paper to explore the impact of
CRNs security on the future 5G communication. More specific
scenarios for adopting artificial noise protection scheme in
mmWave communication system operates at 28GHz was
introduced. Additionally two realistic 5G scenarios have been
evaluated. First, initial scenario with 500 users without any
protection of the resources. Secondly, 500 users with various
number of eavesdroppers (unauthorized terminals) and utilizing
artificial noise protection scheme. Eventually performance
analysis has been produced based on secrecy capacity and outage
(leakage) probability. The results show significant impact of the
security issues on cognitive radio networks and utilizing an
efficient technique (artificial noise protection scheme) can freeing
up the resources effectively where approximately 29% percentage
of the UEs have average rate more than 200MHz compared to the
average rate distribution in the initial scenario.
