The linear relationship between P-wave velocity and density is used to estimate the densities of the bulk and lower crust beneath the 7 major tectonic units in Chinese Tethyan domain. The results suggest that the lower crusts beneath the Tethyan domains of China are dominantly mafic in density and in composition, but the bulk density of these crusts is similar to or slight heavier than the andesitic global mean crust. It means that the bulk composition of the crust of Chinese Tethyan domain is similar to or slight mafic than that of global mean crust
