摘要
Electrochromic devices (ECDs) have emerged as a compelling platform for next-generation wearable and free-form display applications. However, simultaneously achieving stretchability, pixelation, and multicolor capability within a single device architecture remains a critical challenge. This presentation highlights our recent studies toward flexible and stretchable ECDs based on viologen-containing ion gel compositions [1–3]. We develop stretchable, photo-patternable ion gel systems that enable direct pixel formation and exhibit excellent electrochromic stability under repeated cycling. Complementary stretchable electrodes, built from nanowire- and nanotube-based conductive networks, maintain conductivity under deformation where conventional brittle oxide electrodes fail. Device-level design further ensures uniform electrical contact, suppresses inter-pixel crosstalk, and redistributes mechanical stress across the active area. Leveraging these material and structural advances, we realize stretchable, large-area ECDs with stable multi-pixel coloration that persists over repeated strain cycles. These results establish a scalable route toward stretchable electrochromic display platforms for free-form electronic applications.
