Study on the Mechanism and Mitigation of Impulse Waves Generated by Giant Bedding Landslides in the Three Gorges Reservoir

摘要
The Prevention and control of giant bedding landslide-induced wave is a focal and challenging issue in geohazard mitigation of reservoir areas. The Muyubao giant landslide in the Three Gorges Reservoir area has been experiencing continuous creep since 2006, with a cumulative displacement exceeding 3 m, which poses potential risks of instability and impulse waves. Taking the Muyubao landslide as a typical case, a scaled valley physical model measuring 63m×19m×1.5m was constructed at a scale of 1:300, and physical experiments on prevention and control of landslide-induced impulse wave were conducted under 12 working conditions. Research findings indicated that: (1) Under the dual constraints of valley topography and failure mode, the wave generated by the Muyubao landslide exhibits dynamics characteristic of typical inclined plate piston wave-making, the initial wave field assumes a flattened elliptical shape. (2) The propagating waves displays irrotational potential flow with gradual attenuation. Significant run-up wave with super-high / very low phenomena are observed on banks of river bends. (3) Under the working conditions of residual strength of the sliding zone and a reservoir water level of 175m asl, the maximum wave amplitude reaches 32.4 m, posing a threat to approximately 91 km of the Yangtze River waterway. Enhancing the residual strength of the sliding zone by 13% or reducing the sliding mass to an elevation of 275 m can confine wave hazards to limited river course. These findings provide technical support for risk prevention and control of giant bedding landslide-induced impulse wave in Three Gorges Reservoir, and provide new perspectives for an in-depth understanding and management of the cascading hazards of giant bedding landslide-induced impulse wave.
