WetterXtreme is a free educational programme that transfers current research on impacts of extreme weather on coastal ecosystems into classrooms. Co-developed by researchers, teachers, and education experts, it provides scientifically sound and practice-oriented materials for students.
Four flexible modules combine experiments, inquiry-based learning, interactive simulations, and immersive VR experiences on extreme weather events such as storm surges and droughts. The content is based on findings from mareXtreme, a research mission of the German Marine Research Alliance involving around 150 scientists.
By linking research, education, and students’ everyday experiences, WetterXtreme strengthens climate literacy, supports solution-oriented thinking, and empowers young people to contribute to a resilient and sustainable future.
