The Interannual Variability of Internal Solitary Wave Dynamics in Arctic Ocean

摘要
This study investigates the interannual variability of internal solitary waves (ISW) dynamic parameters of generation and propagation in the Arctic Ocean. According to numerous satellite images we conclude that Arctic ISWs occur primarily in the continental shelves, with the highest frequency in the Kara Sea (KS). High Baines force values in the Eurasian Arctic, representing strong tidal forcing for ISW generation, are consistent with the most frequent ISW observations there. The Baines force has an overall decreasing trend, suggesting declining Arctic ISW activity. Further analysis of ISW dynamic parameters of propagation and evolution shows that the linear wave speed and dispersive coefficient are decreasing, whereas the nonlinear coefficient is increasing. These trends are predominantly driven by salinity changes, which accounts for 117%, 108%, and 153% of the variations in the linear wave speed, nonlinear and dispersive coefficients, respectively. Conversely, temperature changes exert a counteracting effect on these parameters.
