摘要
In this report, we will introduce the internal wave model for the Andaman Sea, which is developed using the unstructured‑grid model FVCOM. We adopt a method similar to that used for constructing the internal wave model in the South China Sea (SCS) to predict the realistic processes of internal wave generation and propagation across the basin. Model validation demonstrates that the simulations are successful in reproducing the arrival time and amplitudes of internal waves that appear in the mooring successively. However, the simulations are very sensitive to the model’s initial condition. A proper resolution of the basin-scale circulation and background stratifications is required to accurately predict the wave excitation from two distinct sources and the subsequent processes of wave-wave interaction, which are the key to reproducing the internal waves appearing in mooring observations. Finally, the key features of internal wave generation and propagation are compared between the Andaman Sea and the SCS, which aims for a simple approach to wave predictions.
