This presentation explores an ArtScience practice rooted in Lagos Lagoon, translating over a decade of marine research on heavy metals, microplastics, ecosystem degradation, and plastic pollution hotspots into visual and narrative media for public and policy audiences. Through the documentaries Plastic Peril and Women in Seafood, it connects scientific evidence with the lived experiences, labour, and ecological knowledge of fishing communities and women in Nigeria’s marine sector. By combining rigorous science, documentary storytelling, and community-centred narratives, the work makes environmental data more accessible and urgent while positioning coastal communities as authors of their own environmental stories.
