摘要
Ocean literacy is generally related to educational strategies that incorporate science with art, creativity, observation, and public engagement. The concept of ArtScience helps to bridge the gap between different multiple disciplines by interpreting scientific principles through creative works that engage people in a meaningful learning process. This presentation showcases Explore Biology with Art, a general elective course that aimed at introducing students with biological concepts while engaging them in a series of ArtScience activities. This course is intended to meet the objectives that enhance students’ observation skills and scientific literacy in relation to marine ecosystems, and encourage creativity, collaboration, and environmental stewardship through various ArtScience activities. Students explore marine biodiversity through scientific algae illustration, traditional Japanese Gyotaku (fish printing), building of three-dimensional marine ecosystem models, and creating recycled bioart sculptures of marine animals accompanied by conservation displays. These activities foster close observation, deepen understanding of marine ecology, and provide innovative ways for communicating scientific knowledge. This educational approach demonstrates the potential of ArtScience as an inclusive framework that integrates higher education, community participation, and marine conservation. By combining artistic practice with scientific observation, the program encourages curiosity, creativity, and environmental stewardship while fostering meaningful connections between people and the ocean. Furthermore, it offers a transferable model for educators seeking innovative,  interdisciplinary strategies to advance ocean literacy and inspire broader public engagement in marine conservation.
