摘要

The Northwest Pacific Ocean (NWPO), characterized by frequent intense typhoons and energetic mesoscale eddies, provides a favorable environment for examining typhoon-eddy interactions. Based on satellite observations and reanalysis data from 330 typhoons spanning 2003 to 2024, this study investigates how mesoscale eddies modulate the oceanic response to typhoons. Composite analyses show that both anticyclonic eddies (AEs) and cyclonic eddies (CEs) induce significant right-left asymmetries in sea surface temperature (SST) cooling and sea level anomaly (SLA) depression. For right-side (left-side) AEs, the maximum reductions in amplitude, circulation speed, and radius are about 2.5 cm (0.7 cm), 3.9 cm/s (1.0 cm/s), and 12.7 km (10.5 km), respectively. For CEs, corresponding increases are 1.8 cm (1.4 cm), 4.2 cm/s (2.9 cm/s), and 14.4 km (13.6 km), indicating overall stronger responses on the right side. Analyses of buoyancy frequency.
