Oysters are critical ecosystem engineers, and the reefs they create contribute dramatically to the health, sustainability, and resilience of coastal ecosystems. However, oyster reefs are critically under threat. To support oyster reef management, we propose four key recommendations: planning priority areas, multi-pronged reef restoration, securing community livelihoods, and greater stakeholder engagement.
