PoLarIS (Polar Land Ice Simulator) is a finite-element ice-sheet model designed for simulating the transient evolution of marine-terminating ice sheets. Here we present its ISMIP7 Greenland Ice Sheet simulations, including recent developments in Robin-type inversion, basal sliding, ice-flow enhancement, calving, ice-front melt, ocean thermal forcing, and subglacial drainage. The model is initialized using observed surface velocity and mass-conservation constraints, then forced by time-dependent surface mass balance and ocean data.
The simulations focus on Greenland evolution since 2014, evaluating ice velocity, calving discharge, frontal melt, basal melt, grounded area, floating area, mass above flotation, and total mass change. Preliminary results emphasize the importance of marine-terminating margins, especially calving-front detection, fjord-wall constraints, floating-ice basal friction, and frontal ablation parameterizations. These experiments provide a basis for assessing PoLarIS performance and uncertainty in Greenland sea-level projections under the ISMIP7 framework.
