Boron films and boron pellets both play a crucial role in inertial confinement fusion and magnetic confinement fusion research. Boron films are utilized in studies of boronized wall conditioning, plasma-wall interactions, and hydrogen-boron reactions. Boron pellets are employed for fueling and particle transport studies, plasma disruption mitigation, Edge Localized Mode (ELM) control, plasma diagnostics, and real-time wall conditioning.

In this study, we have developed technologies for preparing pure boron films by magnetron sputtering and hydrogen-containing boron films by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), as well as boron pellets by sintering. This has enabled the preparation of self-supported boron films with thicknesses ranging from 0.1 to 10 μm and hydrogen contents ranging from 0 to 40 at%. Additionally, boron pellets with a sphericity of over 90%, a diameter of approximately 1 mm, and a mechanical strength of 160 N have been successfully fabricated.

Samples prepared by these technologies have been used in research for both magnetic confinement fusion and inertial confinement fusion.
