Analysis of Fuse Blowing in Bus Voltage Transformers Induced by Intermittent Grounding Faults in Cables of Low-Resistance Grounding Systems

摘要
 Low-resistance grounding systems are widely used in urban distribution networks due to their advantages such as rapid fault clearance and effective suppression of arc grounding overvoltages. Recently, multiple incidents have occurred in a certain power grid where single-phase intermittent cable faults in low-resistance grounding systems led to blown fuses in bus voltage transformers (PT) and subsequently triggered automatic standby power switch operations, compromising the safe and reliable operation of the grid. Through typical case analysis, simulation of the fusing mechanism, testing of fuse characteristics, and real-world testing of PT branch voltage and current, this paper identifies the cause of the blown fuses in the voltage transformers as follows: intermittent single-phase cable ground faults generate substantial half-wave pulses, whose continuous superposition and accumulation lead to saturation of the voltage transformers and a consequent increase in current, resulting in the blowing of the three-phase fuses in the bus PT. To address such issues, this paper proposes preventive measures, including the installation of overcurrent suppression devices and the optimization of protection strategies, to mitigate the risk of fuse blown, reduce unnecessary automatic standby power switch operations, and significantly enhance the safe operation level of the power grid.
