Image Analysis of Arc Development Process in DC Fuse

摘要
DC fuses are widely used in various DC power distribution units to protect equipment from short-circuit and overload fault currents. To enhance the overload breaking capacity of DC fuses, this paper conducts experiments based on simulated fuses to explore the development of DC fuse arcs under different operating conditions. A simulated fuse observation container was filled with silica sand as the arc quenching filler, and a high-speed camera was used to capture the arc development images during the arc burning period under 100, 150, and 200V power supply voltages. At the same time, the arc voltage, current, and pressure were measured. The results show that the development speed of the fuse arc is approximately 0.6m/s under a 100V power supply voltage, while it is about 2.2m/s along the fuse element direction under a 200V condition, indicating a significant increase in the development speed, which is conducive to the elongation of the arc and the increase in arc voltage. It was also observed that there is a flickering arc light area at the arc root before and after arc extinction, suggesting that the arc extinction is affected by the leakage of arc plasma at the arc root. This experimental result is helpful for understanding the arc development mode, and based on this mode, it can guide the development of fuse products with higher overload breaking capacity.
