摘要
Two new siphonostomatoid copepod species of Pupiformus n. gen., P. apodus n. sp. and P. rugosus n. sp., are discovered based on specimens collected from washings of benthic animals dredged from the Korea Strait at a depth of 116-123 meters. Pupiformus n. gen. is characterized by a six-segmented pupiform body, absence of legs, a unilobed maxillule, a cephalothoracic shield divided into a dorsal tergite and two lateral pleurites, and the lack of a maxilla, and a mandibular stylet. Pupiformus rugosus n. sp. differs from P. apodus n. sp. by having a smaller body (about 500 μm long, compared to about 900 μm in P. apodusn. sp.), rugose dorsal tubercles on the cephalothorax and metasomites (smooth tubercles in P. apodusn. sp.), absence of caudal rami (vs. present in P. apodusn. sp.), a five-segmented antennule (four-segmented in P. apodusn. sp.), two long apical setae on the mandibular palp (vs. three setae in P. apodusn. sp.), and a four-segmented female maxilliped (vs. three-segmented in P. apodusn. sp.). Because the new genus cannot be assigned to any existing family of the Copepoda, we establish Pupiformidae n. fam. to accommodate it. This study presents detailed illustrations and scanning electron Micrographs.
