摘要
The Pacific - Asian marginal seas, encompassing dynamic regions like the South China Sea and East China Sea, stand as pivotal arenas for understanding global ocean - climate interactions and human - marine linkages. This study contributes to the 22nd Pacific - Asian Marginal Seas Meeting by synthesizing multidisciplinary investigations across physical, chemical, biological, and geological dimensions.
In physical oceanography, we dissect the variability of major currents (e.g., Kuroshio extensions) and their roles in heat and material transport, shaping regional climate patterns. From a marine chemistry perspective, nutrient cycling dynamics and the impacts of anthropogenic inputs (e.g., riverine nutrients) on coastal eutrophication and acidification are scrutinized.
Biologically, we explore biodiversity distribution, coral reef resilience to climate - induced bleaching, and food web alterations under fishing pressures. Geologically, tectonic evolution, seafloor morphology, and hydrocarbon resource potentials are investigated, alongside risks of natural hazards like submarine landslides.
Climate change emerges as a unifying threat, with analyses of sea - level rise, temperature shifts, and their cascading effects on coastal communities and ecosystems. Human - marine interactions are central, too—assessing coastal development, aquaculture impacts, and devising science - based strategies for sustainable resource management (e.g., fishery co - management).
By integrating observational data (satellite, in - situ cruises), numerical modeling, and interdisciplinary collaborations, this work aims to advance collective understanding of these complex seas. It seeks to inform policy - makers, inspire cross - border research partnerships, and lay foundations for resilient, sustainable stewardship of Pacific - Asian marginal seas in the face of global change.
