The oceanic environment is the largest habitat in the hydrosphere, hosting a vast and complex microbial community. With the advancement of microbiome technology, substantial data on marine microbial communities and environmental factors have been collected. However, the lack of standardized data storage and analysis processes has led to inconsistencies in research findings. This study aims to integrate oceanic microbiome and environmental data, standardize it using the NODE/eLMSG repository, and analyze it with the iMAC/iMAC+ system to establish a robust deep-sea microbiome dataset known as the Microbiome Atlas/Sino-Hydrosphere for Ocean Ecosystem (MASH-Ocean). The goal is to identify key microbial communities and their roles in the carbon, nitrogen, and sulfur cycles across different marine ecosystem.

The MASH-Ocean project has already set up a database website (www.biosino.org/mash-ocean/), enabling public dataset display and comparison. It is developing unique features for marine microorganisms, such as depth selection and dataset comparison between deep and shallow seas, as well as other ecosystems like cold seeps and hydrothermal vents. The project has also completed the dataset construction strategy, using over 2000 metagenomic data as a foundation and ensuring data quality, while more data are under processing. Through large scale data mining, new types of photosynthetic microorganisms have been discovered, enhancing our understanding of these organisms. The website has been launched and already being widely used with 26,649 vistis.
