Compared to surface water resources, rainwater resources are an important unconventional water resource and an important supplement to regional conventional water resources. This study takes the water reception areas of the South to North Water Diversion Project as the study area, and analyzes the changes in the potential utilization of rainwater resources after the construction of sponge cities in the water reception cities. The construction of sponge cities will achieve natural accumulation, natural infiltration, and natural purification of precipitation, allowing more rainwater to accumulate locally. On the one hand, sponge cities improve the utilization of rainwater resources by increasing the collection and utilization of rainwater (such as rainwater buckets). On the other hand, the construction of sponge cities has changed the way of runoff yield and concentration, increasing the rainwater recharge local groundwater, which also increases the utilization of rainwater resources to a certain extent. Based on the construction planning of sponge cities in the water reception areas of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, this study analyzes the potential utilization of rainwater resources in cities in different periods of the future. Furthermore, an analysis was also conducted on the guarantee rate of rainwater resource utilization. This study will provide technical support for the high-quality development of the subsequent projects of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project.
