To realize the flood risk warning of mini-reservoirs in regions with poor data, the rainfall capacity model applicable to varies operation stages has been constructed in this manuscript. A methodology for parameters scheme construction of the rainfall capacity model has been proposed, in addition, an iterative trial solution method considering future rainfall for the constructed model has also been developed to enable fast access to results. The rainfall capacity of 32 pilot mini-reservoirs located in un-gauged basins of Hunan Province was calculated starting from August 21, 2023, and a rolling calculation of rainfall capacity was carried out from August 1 to September 30, 2023 using the proposed model for a mini-reservoir named Heping in this manuscript. The results show that the flood risk of the pilot mini-reservoirs calculated are reasonably related to the rainfall distribution, supporting flood risk visualization for mini-reservoirs within the main rain belt. The calculated rainfall capacity of the mini-reservoirs could reasonably quantify the effect of reservoir water level and previous rainfall, which facilitates accurate quantification of rainfall capacity dynamics.
