 In the medium and long-term scale, the optimal dispatching of hydropower stations focuses on maximizing benefits, without paying attention to how to fully utilize the regulation capacity. To ensure the safe and stable operation of the power grid and enable the hydropower station to evenly respond to the load demand, a segmentation principle based on load characteristics for the whole dispatching period is firstly established to obtain the set of sub-dispatch periods. Then, a calculation method of water level at the end of the sub-dispatching period considering the peak shaving preference of dispatchers is proposed. On this basis, an adaptive segmentation cutting load method including the segmentation principle, heuristic cutting load method, and full-cycle reconfiguration is constructed. Finally, the proposed method is applied to a reservoir in China for constructing a generation scheduling in the falling stage. The operational results indicate that under the generation schedule obtained by the proposed method, the hydropower station can fully and flexibly respond to the load demand, reduce the peak, and stabilize the load fluctuation. The proposed method can provide support for the optimal operation of hydropower stations in power systems dominated by new energy.
