The special work deals with the removal of color from the effluent generated in a paper waste plant through a biofiltration system with different organic packaging. Its purpose was to evaluate the efficiency of such biofilters, to propose as an alternative in the biological treatment of wastewater and reuse them. in the tissue paper production process. An effluent was created simulating a paper deinking plant, which obtained an average color value of 136.3 Pt-Co. Seven organic materials were included and three were selected to be evaluated as packaging in the biofilters, consisting of rice shell, coconut shell and corn cob. The design led to the dimensions of the biofilter: diameter 10 cm and height: 40 cm, material: transparent acrylic. In the deinking process of a paper mill, the disintegration of paper in the pulper together with water and chemicals produced a pulp containing cellulose fibers and contaminants widely varying in terms of size, density and surface properties. That was the reason that justified the existence of a variety of equipment to selectively eliminate suspended and dissolved contaminants from the pulp generated in the pulper. The types of organic packaging to be used in the process of color removal from the effluent generated in a paper deinking plant were selected. In selecting the biofilter packaging, a bibliographic review of the different materials used in such equipment by other researchers was carried out. Among them were obtained: 1. Wood sawdust, 2. Coconut shell, 3. Coconut fiber. 4. Rice shell 5. Corn cob. 6. Corn straw. 7. Cane bagasse. The design of the Biofiltration System for the removal of color from the effluent generated in a paper deinking plant was carried out through an aerobic treatment process by fixed culture. Color removal percentages were low for all biofilters from different organic packaging. The biofilter with the highest percentage of color removal was the rice shell packaging material, which was recommended to be evaluated regarding its final disposal in continued research.
