The water and sediment process is one of the main driving forces of river evolution. The Three Gorges Reservoir, as the world's largest water conservancy project, has caused significant changes in the water and sediment process in the downstream river reach. The Jingjiang River reach in the downstream of the Three Gorges Project has violent erosion. Based on the measured water and sediment content data of hydrology stations in Jingjiang River reach 1992 to 2017, this study systematically analyzed the process of water and sediment. The analysis was carried out according to three time stages as “before the Three Gorges Reservoir impoundment” (before 2003), “at the initial impoundment stage” (2004-2008) and “after the experimental impoundment” (after 2009). The maximum erosion discharge of Jingjiang River reaches in different periods is proposed by using the sediment transfer method to calculate the variation of erosion and deposition of different reaches of Jingjiang River with the flow process.
