Digital twin technology is an effective means to improve the management level of irrigation district, and to achieve high-quality development of irrigation district and food security. However, it is a critical issue how to integrate the characteristics of a specific irrigation area under the condition of meeting the technical framework of digital twin in irrigation area, particularly in inland plain irrigation area. Wuling Reservoir irrigation area has complicated terrain and criss-cross channels, and it is very challenging to construct digital twin Wuling reservoir irrigation area. This paper introduced the construction plan of the digital twin irrigation area based on the technical requirements of the construction of the digital twin irrigation area. The overall framework of Wuling Reservoir Irrigation area was divided into five parts: information infrastructure, digital twin platform, smart irrigation area application, network security system and operation guarantee system. The framework could realize synchronous simulation operation, virtual-real combination and iterative optimization between physical entity and digital twin of Wuling Reservoir irrigation area. The platform was constructed to build BIM digital model, intelligent irrigation decision support system, water resource optimization dispatching system, disaster warning and emergency response system. After continuous iterations and upgrades, the system was able to realize the optimal water requirement for crop growth and the prediction of irrigation time, and could independently drive equipment to complete intelligent irrigation according to crop needs, achieving efficient and intelligent irrigation decisions, efficient water supply according to demand, schedule and quantity. The parctise of digital twin Wuling reservoir irrigation area provides useful exploration and reference for promoting the construction of smart water conservancy.
