The braided reach channels in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River are very developed, and the evolution of the braided reach sections has always been the focus and difficulty of river regulation. In order to control the river regime, regulation projects have been implemented for many years, and the cumulative impact of these projects on the river sections cannot be ignored. The Zhenyang section is one of the 16 key river sections in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. This section is a typical braided reach in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, with a complex planar shape that includes both bifurcated and curved sections. It is one of the most rapidly evolving river sections in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and its rapid changes and difficulty in regulation are also unique in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Since the 1970s, the water conservancy department has successively implemented the first, second, and third phases of the Zhenyang River section renovation projects, and some emergency renovation projects have been implemented during this period. From 2015 to 2019, the channel department implemented the second phase of the deepwater channel renovation project in this section of the river. On the basis of analyzing the evolution of the Zhenyang River section, this article focuses on studying the evolution mechanism of the river section. Combined with the recent implementation of river and channel regulation projects, the cumulative impact of the regulation projects is studied, which can provide ideas and basis for the treatment of the Zhenyang River section in the next stage. At the same time, it can also provide reference and guidance for the treatment of similar braided reach sections in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River.
