Purpose. To reevaluate and estimate the reserves of extracted limestone deposit, remaining limestone deposit in situ and the expected life span of the limestone deposit.
Methods. There is different properties, parameters and formulae used for the estimation and evaluation of the calculated reserves.
Findings. Area of extracted limestone deposit was calculated to have an approximate area of 0.0169sq.km extracted to date. Map reduction and enlargement were used to get the actual size of the area of limestone extracted and the remaining limestone deposit in place. Data that were collected from field include the specific gravity or tonnage factor of the limestone, average depth, crusher capacity, number of effective hours, number of working days, total area of limestone surveyed, approximate area of quarriable limestone.
Originality. Area of extracted limestone deposit forms an irregular polygon and it was divided into eight triangles and a square. Hero’s Formula is used to determine the areas of the triangles.
Practical Value. The results of this investigation which were used to determine the expected yearly production, the volume of limestone extracted to date, the reserve of limestone remaining in place and the life span of the remaining reserve in place to be 4,665,600 million tons, 6,938,295 million tons, 119,240,625 million tons and 25years respectively can have practical implications on the present and future values of the limestone deposit. It can also have effect on the investment returns of the mineral deposit.
