摘要
Occupational health risks associated with extreme heat is becoming rise dramatically under climate change. However, to what extent heat exposure causes changes in the level of occupational health risks across sectors remains unclear. Applying gridded-data of temperature and working population in China, we explored occupational health risks in association with heat exposure across four sectors over the past 42 years. We found that the national occupational heat exposure increased by nearly 40% from 132.9 billion person-hours in 1979 to 184.8 billion person-hours in 2020 (Equivalent to 233 hours per person per year), with higher heat exposure in the Pearl River Delta, central Plains, Yangtze River Delta, and Chengyu regions. Occupational heat exposure in agriculture remained much higher than in other sectors, especially in Guangdong and Henan provinces, but the fastest growth was in services due to the adjustment of industrial structure and population mobility. Selecting regional and sectoral policies, emergency response plans, and climate adaptation strategies become even more crucial.
