The safety regulation of the ridesharing industry involves many parties, including governments, platform companies, and society at large. However, social media, the most important force of social regulation, has not played an appropriate role in the current safety regulation of the ridesharing industry. Thus, considering social media factors, this study constructed an evolutionary game model between governments and platform companies on safety regulations. The study explored the influence path of social media on the system via model solving and numerical simulation. The results show that social media participation has a positive impact on safety regulation of the ridesharing industry. This study provides a decision basis for the government to introduce social media or other regulatory forces in the safety regulation of the ridesharing industry.
