The scale and structure of multimodal transport is the important index to measure the development level of multimodal transport in a country. In china, every mode of transportation uses independent statistical system. The multimodal transport statistics is not included in any system. So we can’t obtain the multimodal transport statistic data to support the planning and policy-making. This paper analyzes several typical conceptions of multimodal transport and then defines the boundary of multimodal transport statistics. Combined with the mode of multimodal transport, loading mode of multimodal transport and loading unit of multimodal transport in china, the paper designs the statistical index system of multimodal transport of china. Based on the actual situation of multimodal transport, this paper puts forward the calculation method of several indexes. The indexes conclude freight volume and rotation volume of multimodal transport, freight volume of multimodal transport by one contract, freight volume of container multimodal transport, freight volume of vehicle multimodal transport.
