Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) has been developed over several decades since 70th of last century. The technology evolution always impacts on the upgrading of ITS infrastructure along the years. In particularly in the recent years, rapid advancement in ITS has brought about a subsequent data explosion, creates immediate demand on how the data could be handled and being fully usage of it. Meanwhile, the developing and emerging of Connected and Automated Vehicle (CAV), Edge Computing, “Big Data”, Internet of Things (IoTs) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) are promoting the next wave of the ITS technology migration. The paper aims at reviewing these advancements, and particularly how they might impact to the potential changes in the current ITS infrastructure. The existing ITS infrastructure (hardware and software framework) will be briefly reviewed; The trend of ITS migration demand will be summarized; Based on reviewing of success cases from the technology sectors, the next generation ITS infrastructure migration trends will be envisioned at top level.
