Effects of epoxidized soybean oil on the compatibility of cold-mixed epoxy asphalt

摘要
To obtain cold-mixed epoxy asphalt (CEA) with good compatibility at ambient temperature, epoxidized soybean oil (ESO) was introduced to prepare CEA-ESOs. The viscosity decreased, and the pot life of CEA-ESO increased with the increase in ESO concentration, which was having a concentration shortage of 30% compared to the asphalt. The CEA-ESO with 30% ESO showed only one glass transition and high storage modulus based on the dynamic mechanical analysis results. As the micromorphology shown, the asphalt particle size decreased visibly, as well as dispersed more uniformly in the epoxy resin (ER) matrix. These results indicated that the compatibility of CEA was increased by ESO. When the ESO concentration was less than 20%, the elongation at break of the CEA-ESOs was higher, and the tensile strength was nearly the same as that of CEA, which may be due to the favorable compatibility between asphalt and ER with increasing ESO concentration.
