Research on Aggregate Motion Characteristics of Porous Asphalt Concrete under Vibration Compaction Condition Based on Image Processing

Porous asphalt concrete (PAC) has attracted much attention for the excellent water stability, noise reduction and fatigue resistance. Movement characteristics of aggregate during the formation of PAC are one of the important topics of research. In this paper, the vibration compaction parameters of the PAC specimen were determined by theoretical calculation and experimental analysis and the data information of the aggregate during the vibration compaction process was collected. The motion characteristics of the aggregate during the vibration compaction process were analyzed. The data results show that the area distribution curve of the aggregate on the cut surface of the PAC specimen is not in conformity with the normal or skewed distribution. Under the action of vibration load, the variation of the inclination angle is larger with the increase in vibration frequency. The image data shows that the top aggregate is first compacted, the bottom and upper aggregates are subsequently compacted, and the middle and lower aggregates are finally compacted during the vibration compaction process.
