摘要
In order to solve the traffic congestion and traffic safety problems caused by the staggered intersection in urban roads, this paper propose a new traffic organization by setting Two-Way Left-Turn Lane(TWLTL) in the center of the road. Based on the comparison of traditional staggered intersection and TWLTL traffic organization methods, the geometric design of TWLTL are researched. The minimum width of TWLTL and the minimum spacing of adjacent intersections under different design speeds are proposed. The effectiveness of TWLTL is demonstrated through a field data investigation, simulation and analysis with VISSIM software. The applicability analysis of TWLTL was carried out under the combination of different main road traffic volume and left turn ratio. When the traffic volume is lower than 1120 veh/h and the left turn ratio is less than 20%, compared with Four-Lane, after setting TWLTL, the traffic efficiency is slightly reduced, but the traffic safety at the intersection is greatly improved. The research results have important reference significance for the application of TWLTL. Key words: two-way left-turn lane, TWLTL, traffic organization, driving safety, design indicators.
