摘要
Recently, the rapid development of the high-speed railway in China has greatly influenced the structure of intercity passenger transport. In the passenger transportation market, high-speed rail has been perceived to be a competitor of the air and road transportation modes. On the other hand, high-speed rail has also been considered to be in cooperation with the air and road transportation modes, as all three transportation means support the travel demands of passengers. In order to study the existing relationships in China among the road, air, and rail transportation modes, dummy variable models are developed to incorporate both high-speed rail and aviation accessibility. The results show that high-speed rail does not monotonically decrease the elasticities of the road and air traffic demand. Additionally, the analysis results confirm the intermodal interaction among the road, rail, and air transportation modes from three aspects. In conclusion, the different relationships among the road, air, and rail transportation modes are due to the various characteristics of cities, including the population and gross regional product.
