Analysis on the Threshold of Conversion from Metro to Bicycle-Metro

The primary purpose of this paper is to explore mechanism of the conversion from metro to bicycle-metro. In order to meet the purpose, stated preference (SP) Survey and revealed preference (RP) Survey are designed. Based on 1856 sample of travel mode choice, nested logit model is established, threshold analysis is conducted to describe the features of conversion. Finally, specific threshold conditions and threshold tables for conversion are obtained. The results indicate that middle and high income travelers with monthly income between 10,000 and 20,000 yuan show some preference for bicycle-metro travel. Compared with other age groups, travelers aged 20~30 and 40~50 show stronger preference to bicycle-metro travel. The conversion threshold of metro to bicycle-metro is comprehensively affected by four variables: travel time difference, connecting walking time, transfer walking time and waiting time. Among them, the longer connecting walking time, the shorter transfer waiting time and walking time, and the greater travel time difference between metro and bicycle-metro, which makes the bicycle-metro more attractive. When the transfer walking time is 4min, 5min and 6min, and the transfer waiting time is 4.5min, 4min and 3.5min respectively, the bicycle-metro begins to gradually show travel advantages. Under the condition of 3-minute transfer walking time and 1-minute transfer waiting time, bicycle-metro has obvious travel advantages, and metro loses its attraction. The results can be used to improve the attractiveness of bicycle-metro by guiding the setting of bicycle parking places and metro driving intervals.
