Ice covering on the lining surface seriously threaten traffic safety in cold region tunnels. The paper summarized the main types of icing problems in tunnels and analyzed the reason for leakage and icing, subsequently, corresponding countermeasures were proposed. Firstly, the waterproof board suffers from vertical damage and shear damage, the drainage system was blocked by sediment and karst deposition, polyurethane insulation layer was extruded and immersed in water resulting in failure, were proposed to reveal the reason of leakage and icing during operation. Secondly, to deal with these problems, the waterproof layer of the sprayed membrane was put forward to dealing with the durability of waterproof layer. And a maintainable drainage system, which includes the tiled laying method of the waterproof layer and a maintainable drain pipe laying method was presented to deal with the problem of drainage system blockage and maintenance. And, it is not recommended to set the thermal insulation layer between the primary support and the secondary lining. The electric heat trace system and geothermal energy combined with the thermal insulation layer could be used against icing behind the lining. Finally, the microwave deicing technology technical and deicing and drainage method of joint was introduced to deal with the icing. It is hoped that the countermeasure could improve the prevention of freezing damage.
