Objective

Medical imaging provides an insight of abundant structural and functional information of the human body, which is currently one of the main diagnostic evidences widely used in medical institutions. By using the computer to process medical images, it can provide clearer and higher-quality images. The three-dimensional reconstruction software of medical imaging is an effective tool to assist doctors in analyzing and displaying the surrounding tissues of the diseased body. The objective of this research is to perform three-dimensional reconstruction and visualization of medical imaging; to clearly and comprehensively display the three-dimensional shape of the lesion and other tissues to the doctor; to provide the doctor with a more intuitive and accurate diagnosis basis; and to assist the doctor in the lesion area and the other areas of interest are analyzed qualitatively to accurate quantitative analysis; thereby reducing the subjectivity of the doctor in the diagnosis process, and ultimately improving the accuracy and scientificity of diagnosis and treatment.

Methods

In the VS2019 integrated development environment, using the C++ for target program to design the methodology, using Qt to design the user interface, calling the ITK class library to process medical images, calling the VTK class library for three-dimensional display of medical images, and displaying the three-dimensional data of the image in three orthogonal cut surface which reflects the internal structure of tissues and organs, and interactive processing such as rotation and magnification of medical images can be realized through mouse operation. Designing and implementing the threshold segmentation and region growth methods, and analyzing the results. Using the exported STL file for 3D printing of the 3D reconstruction model.

Results

The import and reading of medical images and the reading of header information of medical images were realized, and the slice views of medical images in three directions were displayed: cross section, coronal plane and sagittal plane of medical images, and the patient information was also clearly displayed at the same time; Three-dimensional reconstruction and visualization of medical images are realized by two reconstruction algorithms: volume rendering and surface rendering. Through the methods of threshold segmentation and region growth segmentation, doctors can segment and analyze the focus region and other regions of interest. The measurement of the angle and length of the relevant parts of medical images is realized. The three-dimensional reconstructed file is exported by STL format and the three-dimensional reconstructed model is printed by 3D printer.

Conclusions

The application software constructed by us can reconstruct the accurate model from the medical image data, and can be printed in 3D for clinical use. The design and development of three-dimensional reconstruction software for medical images has important clinical application value. In addition, we can further develop the function of virtual surgery, and realize template design and dose evaluation for radiotherapy.
